issue requiring urgent redress. We also assume that the current NHS changes would not adversely cloud this issue. The British Geriatrics Society8 suggests that there may be sufficient grounds for pessimism. It appears that, even allowing for memory lapses, frustration and anger in the elderly patients interviewed in this survey, there was a strong cases to implicate insufficient social screening as one of the causes of mismanagement. We emphasize that the management of elderly patients with functional impairment in A&E departments should include a comprehensive social assessment.

Injury causation scenarios in belt-restrained nearside child occupants.
Successful development of side impact safety systems for rear row child occupants requires an understanding of injury causation and mitigation. However, data to guide the design of such safety systems for seat belt-restrained occupants is limited to injury risk assessments. Thus, we sought to elucidate Injury Causation Scenarios (ICS's) in children restrained by seat belts in nearside impacts. ...

Ninety-three human cadaver tests are used in the development of thoracic injury risk functions with consideration of age and restraint condition. Linear logistic regression models are developed with the set of potential predictors including the maximum chest deflection, the age of the cadaver at death, gender, and the loading condition on the anterior thorax: blunt hub (41 tests), seat belt (26...
متن کاملBrumbelow 1 EFFECTS OF SEAT BELT LOAD LIMITERS ON DRIVER FATALITIES IN FRONTAL CRASHES OF PASSENGER CARS
In the mid-1990s, seat belt load-limiting devices were introduced on many new passenger vehicles equipped with front airbags. These devices are intended to reduce belt-induced injuries such as rib fractures by allowing forward movement of occupants’ torsos when belt loads exceed some threshold. Load limiters have been shown to reduce thoracic injury risk in controlled experiments with cadavers ...
متن کاملAssociation of injury mechanism with the risk of cervical spine fractures.
OBJECTIVE A full understanding of an injury event and the mechanical forces involved should be important for predicting specific anatomical patterns of injury. Yet, information on the mechanism of injury is often overlooked as a predictor for specific anatomical injury in clinical decision-making. We measured the relationship between mechanism of injury and risk for cervical spine fracture. M...
متن کاملSternal Fractures Occur Most Often in Old Cars to Seat-Belted Drivers without any Airbag Often with Concomitant Spinal Injuries – Clinical Findings and Technical Collision Parameters among 42.055 Crash Victims
The incidence and treatment of sternal fractures among traffic accidents are of increasing importance to ensure best possible outcomes. Analysis of technical indicators of the collision, preclinical and clinical data of patients with sternal fractures from 1985-2004 among 42,055 injured patients were assessed by an Accident Research Unit. Two time groups were categorized: 1985-1994 (A) vs. 1995...
